Jose Maldonado – Transfer to UC Berkeley
Business Administration for Transfer and Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum

Jose MaldonadoJose Maldonado, 20, chose Los Medanos College for the wide variety of courses and opportunities he could delve into. Hard work and a knack for building collaborative relationships helped Maldonado complete his degrees for transfer. This fall, he transferred to UC Berkeley’s Business School Haas Program.

Maldonado credits the support and assistance he found among LMC’s many learning communities and resources, including EOPSHonors ProgramTransfer and Career Services, the office of Financial Aid, and in student clubs like Puente, Latinx, and Firme.

Maldonado found time to work at Student Life, where he contributed to the student experience, kept informed about campus events and helped others stay connected.

“Whatever your path, cherish every step of the way. There will be moments of stress and moments of joy,” Maldonado said. “But remember, you’re never alone. Professors, family, and friends all want to see you succeed. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help – attend office hours, seek tutoring, and don’t fear failure.”

Emma Rivera – Transfer to Sacramento State University
Graphic Design

Emma Rivera Emma Rivera, 20, graduated this spring with an associate degree for transfer in graphic design. She transferred to Sacramento State University this fall in pursuit of a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design.

Rivera is the first in her family to attend college.

“One of my favorite experiences at LMC was taking the ceramics and graphic design classes,” Rivera said. “Those classes not only left me with fond memories, but they also helped inspire me to pursue a career that I want in the future.”

As an undecided major when she first enrolled at LMC, Rivera felt lost but soon found support.

“I was able to try different subjects and finally find a major that I was passionate about. LMC is also much more affordable and forgiving than exploring majors at a university,” she said. “So, make the most of the awesome classes and teachers at LMC.”

Rivera worked as an intern in the Marketing Department and is the artist behind LMC’s newly adopted official seal.
